The program will provide food support to families in disaster areas who do not receive regular food assistance
The Florida Department of Children and Families announced the approval of the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP), aimed at providing food assistance to individuals and families impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. This assistance is exclusively for those not receiving food assistance through the regular SNAP program. D-SNAP implementation will begin on Monday, October 28 and will be implemented in phases, each targeting a specific group of counties.
Individuals interested in applying for D-SNAP must pre-register online through the official portal MyFLFamilies.com/DSNAP. Applications are subject to certain eligibility requirements, such as not receiving regular SNAP , having suffered hurricane-related loss or damage (either to their home, income or food), and living in a county designated as a disaster area. Additionally, applicants must meet specific financial criteria.
D-SNAP Assistance and Requirements
- Beneficiaries will receive an EBT (electronic benefit transfer) card to purchase food at USDA authorized retailers.
- This card does not allow the purchase of alcoholic beverages, tobacco products or non-food items.
Application Process:
- Online pre-enrollment: Pre-enrollment will be enabled in phases, each with specific dates for assigned counties. The first phase, October 27-31, includes Columbia, Dixie, Franklin, and other counties.
- Telephone Interviews: Following pre-registration, applicants must complete a telephone interview by calling the D-SNAP Call Center on dates assigned by the applicant’s last name.
- Last names A-F: October 28
- Last Names G-N: October 29
- Last Names O-Z: October 30
- Any last name: October 31

- Phase Two
- Counties: Charlotte, Hernando, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota.
- Pre-registration dates: Sunday, November 3 through Friday, November 8.
- Telephone interview dates: Monday, November 4 and Wednesday, November 6 through Friday, November 8.
- Phase Three
- Counties: Citrus, DeSoto, Flagler, Hardee, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lake, Lee and Volusia.
- Pre-application dates: Monday, November 11 through Friday, November 15.
- Telephone interview dates: Tuesday, November 12 through Friday, November 15.
For those unable to conduct telephone interviews, the Department of Children and Families will host in-person D-SNAP events. Locations and dates for these events will be announced soon. D-SNAP assistance is a key resource for those affected, providing food support during the post-disaster recovery process.
