Do you qualify to receive up to $292 in food stamps this April?

If you have recently lost income or have limited resources, you could access benefits in April and receive assistance to buy food

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has confirmed that in April 2025, beneficiaries of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) could receive up to $292 in food stamps if their household consists of a single person. However, the amount varies depending on household size and the applicant’s financial situation, so larger families could receive even more money for food.

Additionally, those in an emergency situation could access expedited benefits, allowing them to receive assistance much faster than the regular process, which usually takes up to 30 days.

Key requirements to receive SNAP in April or May 2025

To qualify for food stamps, applicants must meet three fundamental criteria related to income and resources:

Income:

  • The Gross Monthly Income (GMI) must be equal to or below 130% of the poverty threshold.
    • For example, in fiscal year 2025, for a family of three people, the maximum allowable GMI is $2,798 per month.
  • The Net Income (after deductions) must be below the poverty line established in the U.S.

Economic resources:

  • Households must have less than $3,000 in assets (excluding housing and vehicles).
  • If the household includes a person over 60 years old or someone with a disability, the resource limit increases to $4,500.

Work conditions:

  • Adults between 18 and 54 years old must work at least 80 hours per month to receive SNAP.
  • Those who do not meet this requirement can only receive SNAP for three months within a three-year period due to the time limit rule for adults without dependents.

How to apply for SNAP benefits?

If you meet all the requirements, you can apply for SNAP in the following ways:

  1. Visiting your local SNAP office in your state.
  2. Submitting an online application, as several states allow this process digitally.
  3. Checking for additional benefits, as some states offer complementary programs to SNAP.

Act fast! You may qualify for expedited benefits

If you are in a situation of extreme need, you could qualify to receive SNAP through an expedited process, without having to wait the usual 30 days.

Since rules may vary slightly by state, it is advisable to check as soon as possible if you qualify and how you can apply for this food assistance. Don’t miss the opportunity to receive support in April!
