New Payments in Florida: Key Dates and Additional Benefits for December

The program guarantees access to essential foods and expands its reach in local markets with incentives like FAB

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) continues to support more than 2.8 million residents in Florida, ensuring that low-income families have access to nutritious food. During December 2024, the payments will be made between the 1st and 28th, according to each beneficiary’s case number. The schedule is as follows:

  • Cases 72-74: December 21
  • Cases 75-78: December 22
  • Cases 79-81: December 23
  • Cases 82-85: December 24
  • Cases 86-88: December 25
  • Cases 89-92: December 26
  • Cases 93-95: December 27
  • Cases 96-99: December 28

Access and Restrictions of the SNAP Program

Beneficiaries receive their funds on an EBT card, which works like a debit card and allows purchasing fresh, canned, frozen foods, and gardening seeds at authorized retailers. However, non-food items such as clothing, medications, or cleaning products are not covered by the benefits.

How to Apply for SNAP and Recertification Requirements

The application process includes three steps:

  • Submit the application online, in person, or by mail.
  • Conduct a phone interview to verify financial information and receive guidance on the necessary documentation.
  • Submit the required documentation within 30 days.

Additionally, beneficiaries must recertify their eligibility periodically. The deadlines vary depending on the household circumstances:

  • Typical households: every 6 months.
  • Households with unemployed adults: every 4 months.
  • Households with elderly or disabled individuals: every 24 months.

Program Expansion to Local Markets with the FAB

At participating farmers’ markets, SNAP offers the Fresh Access Bucks (FAB) program, which doubles beneficiaries’ purchasing power up to $40 daily. This means that a user who spends $10 with their EBT card receives an additional $10 to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, and dairy products.

The program is also available at mobile markets, farm stands, and some retail stores. To locate participating sites, users can use the SNAP locator tool and filter by agricultural markets.

With its expanding reach and the implementation of incentives like FAB, SNAP reinforces its commitment to ensuring access to healthy and affordable food for the most vulnerable communities in Florida.
